Meet Clinic Leader Drew Shellenberger
Drew Shellenberger’s journey into triathlon was deeply influenced by his father, a dedicated triathlete. Some of Drew’s earliest memories involve traveling to races and running across finish lines alongside his dad. While his father introduced him to the sport, Drew and his sister were given the freedom to pursue their own athletic interests. Initially, Drew focused on golf, while his sister took up swimming and running. But in high school, their roles flipped—Drew found his passion for triathlon, and his sister embraced golf.
Drew’s dedication and talent led him to USA Triathlon’s Olympic Development Team, Project Podium, where he trained with the nation’s top rising male triathletes. Since graduating from the program, he has set his sights on long-course racing, making Wildflower the perfect event for him to experience the unique blend of competition, community, and adventure.
Wildflower: A Race Unlike Any Other
Wildflower isn’t just a race—it’s an experience. Since 2010, Drew’s family has considered Wildflower a bucket-list event, and while he has yet to race it himself, he has only heard incredible things about the festival-like atmosphere, diverse race options, and unmatched sense of camaraderie. Unlike many triathlons held near major cities, Wildflower’s remote setting in the rolling hills of California offers athletes a chance to disconnect from the daily grind and immerse themselves in nature. It’s an event where families, friends, and athletes of all levels come together to celebrate the sport.
The event isn’t limited to triathlon—there are open-water swims, running races, and activities for athletes of all ages. Drew is especially excited about the welcoming, family-friendly environment that makes Wildflower stand out from other races. Whether you’re a first-time participant or a veteran triathlete, there’s something for everyone at Wildflower.
