Running Trails
by Dean Karnazes, Ultramarathon Man
I saw a statistic the other day that shocked me. It said that only about five percent of the runners in the US run on trails. When I think about my life as a runner, that ratio is about the exact opposite. Once you discover the magic of running on a trail it’s hard to go back to running on pavement.
Of course, I’ve been running on trails for many years. Here in California—where I’m from—trail running is becoming increasingly popular. Every year I see more and more people moving off-road. And I foresee this “road-to-trail conversion,” as I call it, accelerating into the future. This is a positive trend. The more people get outdoors and into nature the greater their appreciation for restoring and preserving the environment. Everybody wins.
The Wildflower Experience Trail Run in Bradley, CA this May 4th is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of the finest trails the Golden State has to offer in a fun and festive setting. Share some footsteps with a group of like-minded individuals and push your limits while embracing all the grandeur and beauty the trails of the Central Coast have to offer.
