Aquabike and Open Water Swim Events Now Offered at Wildflower
Have you heard? There are now even more opportunities for athletes to race on the Wildflower course! Introducing two more exciting aquatic events to the legendary Wildflower Experience race schedule and festival weekend. Aquabike and Open Water Swim race categories will now be offered to a full line-up of triathlon race distances, several run events, a music festival, stand up paddle board event, and a three-day Outdoor Yoga & Workout Experience on May 3-5, 2019 at Lake San Antonio in Monterey County, CA.
The USA’s fastest growing multisport discipline, Aquabike combines long course swimming and biking and offers age group athletes another way to cross the iconic Wildflower finish line. “The aquabike format is quite popular with athletes who wanted to experience the unique challenge of a multi-sport endurance race without the 13.1-mile run.” said Colleen Bousman, Race Director. With this new race category, athletes will mirror the world-famous Long Course. Participants will complete the 1.2-mile swim and 56-mile hilly bike course, rack their bikes then continue down the chute to the finish.
Also, new this year, the 1.2-mile Open Water Swim race will be available to athletes on Sunday in conjunction with the Olympic Distance triathlon and Collegiate Championship. Swimmers will start and finish at the traditional Lynch swim ramp. “We are thrilled to continue to expand race opportunities for our athletes,” said Colleen Bousman, Race Director. “Wildflower Experience is such an iconic event, but we also recognize that triathlon is not the only way to experience swimming, biking and running. Our new swim events will enable more athletes to participate in the classic Wildflower Experience.”
The Aquabike and Open Water Swim will each feature its own start wave, awards and finisher medals.
Every year, athletes and spectators fill the campgrounds of Lake San Antonio in Central California. Known worldwide as an iconic, one-of-a-kind triathlon, Wildflower is a 3-day endurance festival celebrating multi-sport, music, wellness and outdoor adventure. Packed in with a full schedule of races, this iconic weekend triathlon festival boasts three action-packed expo venues featuring top-notch live entertainment, celebration beer garden, wine tasting, a wellness spa, marketplace and race clinics. Wildflower always attracts a star-studded line-up of professional and amateur triathletes from around the globe.
